MUSIC TRENDS: Latest Music Trends for Artists
Welcome to your exclusive information community for committed artists.
At Art Productions we want to share valuable information to help artists grow in this market so saturated with the same old thing.
This week we bring you very interesting insights to understand how to operate in this industry and to learn about the latest objective data that helps us read some strategic movements in the music market and from emerging artists.
GLOBAL MUSIC CONSUMPTION TREND 2024
This fascinating graph offers us a clear view of the evolution of music consumption in the world and its upward trend for the coming years.
The growth is evident in both streaming music consumption and physical sales, as well as in the global industry revenue, which in 2023 reached over $28.6 billion. Impressive, right?
This shows that we are in an ideal moment to develop an independent music project professionally. However, it is crucial to do so with a solid strategy, backed by committed professionals, and with a clear focus on music production that seeks a sound, an aesthetic, and an identity that defines the project and the artist.
An action plan focused on accelerated growth on social media and streaming platforms can make all the difference for self-managed independent artists.
The music industry is constantly evolving, and with it, innovative trends emerge that offer independent artists unique opportunities to stand out and connect with their audience.
For independent artists in 2024/2025, there are some key trends they can leverage to stand out and grow in the music industry:
1 – TikTok as a leading tool for emerging artists
The Chinese platform TikTok continues to expand its global reach, perfecting its algorithm and providing independent artists with a powerful tool to gain visibility. Its viral success has proven to be a catalyst for emerging careers, where songs gain popularity through challenges, trends, and the organic push of the community.
For growing artists, leveraging TikTok and Instagram Reels is key: sharing song previews, behind-the-scenes moments, and creative content helps capture the attention of new audiences. You just need a solid strategy, consistency, and a fresh, well-crafted musical proposal that resonates with the public.
2 – Emerging global music markets in 2025
To talk about the current trend in the music market, it’s important to highlight how 2024 has consolidated some significant changes in the industry. Digitization has allowed for an unprecedented expansion of music consumption, with streaming platforms continuing to dominate but adapting to new demands. The evolution of technology, such as artificial intelligence and Web3 platforms, is facilitating alternative ways for independent artists to generate income, such as direct royalty payments and the sale of digital collectibles.
Emerging markets, especially in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, are seeing rapid growth in listeners. This is driven by a young and digitally connected population, with a marked interest in discovering new artists and innovative musical proposals, experiencing a significant increase in the adoption of streaming platforms. This growth has created an opportunity for artists looking to expand their audience in burgeoning markets.
Collaborating with local artists from these countries or adapting campaigns to connect with these audiences can help independent artists reach a global and diversified base.
3 – The rise of AI to facilitate work
Learning to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools has greatly facilitated the arduous work of organizing, developing, and planning a music career. Although each strategy must be carefully designed according to the project, the artist’s style, and the available budget, AI offers an excellent advantage for those starting their journey without a team.
AIs allow for generating ideas for cover art, assisting in songwriting, experimenting with content concepts for social media, and even proposing ideas for wardrobe and artistic aesthetics. They are versatile and accessible tools that not only save time but also provide inspiration and new creative perspectives.
4 – The public demands fresh, innovative, and multicultural music
Throughout history, artistic trends have emerged from cultural blending and eclectic movements, in an era when a globalized and saturated music market did not yet exist.
Today, more than ever, differentiation is essential in the musical landscape. In a market where overexposure and homogenization are rampant, few know how to face the challenge of developing a truly innovative proposal with its own identity. Creating something that endures over time, that has artistic quality, and that connects with the public requires not only talent or technique but a clear vision and, above all, a passion for music.
5 – The Impact and Importance of Superfans
Superfans have become a fundamental pillar for the success of independent artists. They are those followers who not only consume music but also actively participate in promotion, buy merchandise, and attend concerts. They represent approximately 15% of the music audience in the U.S. and spend 80% more than the average listener. Web3 platforms are beginning to monetize these superfans through direct royalty payments and digital collectibles, allowing artists to diversify their income streams. However, it is essential to balance attention between superfans and casual listeners to maintain sustainable growth.
6 – Immersive performance to enhance live and content experiences
In 2024, immersive performance has become a powerful trend, transforming the way artists interact with their audiences in both live concerts and digital content. This immersive experience seeks to go beyond the music itself, creating a sensory universe that involves fans and makes them feel like an active part of the show.
Video projections, synchronized lighting, and immersive narratives through theatrical or contemporary choreographic interpretations have become basic elements of immersive performance. This allows artists to design a show that evolves with the music and amplifies the narrative of each song. This type of visual production makes the show memorable and attractive for those seeking a complete sensory experience, turning concerts into unique events.
In addition to concerts, many artists are developing immersive content to accompany their musical releases. This can include 360-degree music videos, augmented reality experiences on social media, or exclusive interactive content. These digital experiences help create a visual narrative around the album or single, generating greater engagement and offering fans a way to connect deeply with the music and the artist, even outside of concerts.

The Artist Who Redefines Self-Image and Independence in Music
SEVDALIZA is the stage name of Sevda Alizadeh, an Iranian-Dutch singer-songwriter, composer, and director, who surprises us with a very interesting and inspiring independent professional career. With her independent music project, she has captured global attention with a style she has developed with a deeply personal artistic focus.
Since her first releases in 2015, she has shown a development worthy of study, moving from an experimental phase to a very well-crafted sonic and aesthetic identity that blends trip-hop, minimalist electronica, R&B, and dance music with an introspective, authorial narrative.
Born on September 1, 1987, in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, SEVDALIZA emigrated to the Netherlands as a refugee with her family when she was just five years old. At 16, she became independent thanks to a basketball scholarship, earning a spot on the Dutch national team. Afterward, she pursued university studies and obtained a master’s degree in communication, starting a career in this field. However, she soon discovered that this life was not what she wanted, so at 24, she decided to dedicate herself to music.
Despite having no formal musical training, not knowing how to read sheet music or play instruments, SEVDALIZA spent countless hours in the studio to learn to sing and use Ableton, the software that allowed her to start creating her own productions. Her determination and self-management propelled her to make her way in the music industry, forging the style and identity that define her today.
Her aesthetic visual approach is one of her distinctive hallmarks, both for its visual and conceptual impact. She understood the value it brought to the music, so from her first EPs, SEVDALIZA invested in music videos with high visual and conceptual quality.
In some of them, she enhanced her own, evidently distinctive image, with very elaborate and striking makeup and outfits. She took advantage of her masculine features precisely to create a sexual ambiguity before the public, with an androgynous aesthetic, being a woman and feeling like a woman. She wanted to challenge gender stereotypes and project a powerful message of self-acceptance. This ambiguity in her image, especially visible in her second EP, was a clever strategy to connect with her audience and establish a genuine and authentic identity in her professional career in a short time.
Each music video and visual presentation by SEVDALIZA is a work of art in itself. Her cinematic style, in collaboration with directors and photographers with a similar vision, allows her to tell deep and visually stunning stories. Videos like “Human” and “Shahmaran” are examples of how visual aesthetics can reflect the complexity of her themes, keeping the viewer captive.
Throughout her discography, which includes albums like ISON and Shabrang, SEVDALIZA has explored themes of mental health, empowerment, inclusion, and acceptance, creating a musical and visual style that deeply resonates with her audience.

DISCOGRAPHY
1. First EP – The Suspended Kid (2015)
On March 5, 2014, SEVDALIZA released her first song, “Clear Air“, accompanied by a music video she produced herself and which was directed by Gino Gervaes.
This release was followed by “Sirens of the Caspian” on June 4, 2014, and “Backseat Love” on October 14 of the same year, both also accompanied by music videos. Finally, on January 28, 2015, she released her first EP, The Suspended Kid, whose title refers to her experience of feeling excluded or questioned in social situations, such as her conflicts with coaches or bosses, which made her realize she had to take her own path. This EP was co-produced with Dutch producer Mucky.
The Suspended Kid marks SEVDALIZA’s beginning in the music industry. This EP is an exploration of genres and styles, where she mixes trip-hop, electronica, and R&B to reflect her artistic search. The EP shows a SEVDALIZA in full experimentation, still defining her sound and visual style.
The era of The Suspended Kid concluded with the release of the music video for the song “That Other Girl” on September 1, 2015, completing the series of tracks that defined this first stage of artistic exploration for SEVDALIZA.
Strategy: SEVDALIZA invests in high-quality and conceptually deep music videos from the very beginning, because she understands the promotional value they carry if well thought out. We find an experimental EP aimed at finding her own style, aesthetic, and message, so we perceive a medley of ideas still to be chewed and savored.
2. Second EP – Children of Silk (2015)
In Children of Silk, SEVDALIZA takes a step towards a more defined musical identity. She explores introspective themes and questions perceptions about gender. It is here that confusion about her sexuality arises due to her strong, androgynous facial features, which sparks a series of questions and rumors among her followers. Instead of avoiding the topic, SEVDALIZA enhances it in her work, using it as a tool to explore her own self-image and challenge gender and femininity stereotypes in the industry.
Strategy: The intentional ambiguity of image in Children of Silk is a bold strategy to express her authenticity and carry an important message about self-acceptance. This brilliant idea not only differentiates her as an artist but also addresses a topic of great social relevance, sending a clear message about personal acceptance and breaking pre-established molds, adding more value to her already well-crafted music.
3. First Album – ISON (2017)
ISON is the expansion of her previous EP and her first debut album, with a total of 16 songs, where, without a doubt, we find a well-macerated musical marvel, worthy of study and enjoyment. Here, SEVDALIZA consolidates her musical and visual identity after charting a path and experimenting with different styles and textures in the previous EPs.
This record presents an emotional and cohesive narrative, exploring the human experience from a personal and complex perspective. Songs like “Human” and “Marilyn Monroe” reveal a minimalist and sonorous work of great artistic depth, while the album becomes a manifesto of her artistic identity.
On November 17, SEVDALIZA released the song “Human“, accompanied by a music video again produced by Emmanuel Adjei. “Human“, along with tracks like “The Language of Limbo”, “Amandine Insensible“, and “Marilyn Monroe“, would be part of her debut album, ISON.
In 2017, SEVDALIZA released her first song in Persian, “Bebin“, in response to the executive order by US President Donald Trump that indefinitely banned refugees and immigrants from entering the country.
The album’s name is inspired by the comet ISON, which passed close to the sun; the idea came to Alizadeh as she was falling asleep and it seemed like an ideal metaphor for her project. According to SEVDALIZA, ISON explores deep fears and experiences of growth, themes that reflect the intensity of her own personal process.
ISON was well-received by critics, with a score of 7.7 on Pitchfork and a prominent place on the list of the best pop and R&B albums of 2017, where it was described as “an album that gets under your skin and stays in your thoughts”.
Strategy: In ISON, we see a clear sonic aesthetic, acquired thanks to experimentation in her two previous EPs. The enhancement of her own characteristic image, along with the focus on themes like vulnerability, identity, and acceptance, and her very well-defined and unique sound, create a genuine and deep connection with her audience. The constant promotional work on social media is added to a very well-found style and sound.
4. Third EP – The Calling (2018)
In January 2018, SEVDALIZA released “Soul Syncable“, the first preview of her third EP, The Calling. This work, which was officially released in March of the same year, also includes the song “Human Nature“, released as the second single on February 26.
The Calling is an EP in which SEVDALIZA continues to explore deep and mystical themes related to human nature, spirituality, and the connection between body and soul. With her characteristic mix of trip-hop, electronica, and R&B, this project reinforces her focus on an introspective and existential narrative. The lyrics address questions of identity, purpose, and the search for inner truth, while the production stands out for its dark and minimalist atmosphere, which envelops the listener in an almost hypnotic experience.
This EP also stands out visually, with a conceptual style that emphasizes the duality between the human and the divine, and a visual design that explores mystical symbols and captivating aesthetics. With The Calling, SEVDALIZA consolidates her artistic identity and offers a work that, although brief, leaves a deep impression and marks an important stage in her creative evolution.
Strategy: Continuing to explore deep and complex themes allows her to maintain an emotional connection with her audience and continue developing an artistic image without commercial compromises.
5. Second Album – Shabrang (2020)
Shabrang represents an evolution in her career. On this album, SEVDALIZA continues to explore themes as important in society as self-image, trauma, and empowerment. Her music becomes even more introspective, and the production follows a more refined and minimalist style. With Shabrang, the artist shows maturity in her art, having found and consolidated a unique voice in the industry.
Without a doubt, it is a masterpiece worthy of admiration, very well thought out and developed, where a new influence from artists like the latest from “RADIOHEAD” can be glimpsed without abandoning her own style.
Strategy: Shabrang is born after an EP where she once again experiments and reflects on her career, reinventing and redefining herself in an amazing way. Maintaining and perfecting the promotion strategy on social media, she continues to inject investment into the cinematographic part to enhance the promotion of the album and her brand.
SEVDALIZA maintains her experimental minimalism along with multicultural sounds, creating a visually cohesive and emotionally intense album. Without a doubt, this album puts the finishing touch on her career with a continued upward trajectory thanks to her stellar appearances on important YouTube programs like “COLORS,” “ARTE Concert,” or “Tiny Desk.” As in the schedule of festival concerts, where she never stops reinventing herself to make an impact on the new audience.
6. Fourth EP – Raving Dahlia (2022)
Raving Dahlia marks a turn from the proposals we were used to in SEVDALIZA’s previous works. This time she has leaned towards experimenting with dance music, where we find tracks with Latin and even raver undertones, thus expressing her desire to experiment without complexes.
Its striking cover comes to express the great problem of social and cultural Western stereotypes that are doing so much harm, especially among young girls.
We can also observe a refinement of technique in the production, both sonic and cinematographic, maintaining in this aspect the line of development of the project. We can see her desire to project a different but impactful image on each occasion.
Strategy: In this EP, Raving Dahlia, we see well-controlled and promoted sporadic releases along with several collaborations related to the style she handles. She continues to invest a lot of capital in audiovisual productions, improving more and more the quality and experience of the product so that it can reach more potential followers.
SEVDALIZA’s discography not only reflects a musical evolution but also an artistic development strategy with special care for her “brand” and image that seeks visual impact. Since her second EP, where she has worked closely with her music producer Mucky, Sevda uses the confusion about her sexuality to challenge perceptions and project a disconcerting, authentic, and powerful image, which seeks the public’s attention while maintaining the message and coherence in terms of sound and visuals for each work.
SEVDALIZA, in her albums, has an experimental feel audible to all audiences, touching on sensitive topics that manage to connect with a specific audience. Without a doubt, she has demonstrated a unique ability to build a professional music career in a short time, with strategy, compositional/sonic quality, and consistency.
Her project is a clear example in many ways, also of how to use personal elements, even those that can be seen as “controversial,” to create an artistic identity that resonates deeply with the public. Her strategy has proven to leave a mark that goes beyond music, projecting an inspiring message about the power of self-acceptance and authenticity.
BUILD A SOLID FOUNDATION
A music career is like constructing a building: first, the blueprints are designed, then the materials are acquired, and construction begins with a good foundation. Without a solid base, good materials, and a constant pace in construction, the building will wobble, risking its development until, unable to support itself, it ends up collapsing or simply abandoned.
If the first floor is not built correctly, which must be consistent, with an attractive and unique facade that invites people to enter and enjoy, all the investment of time and money will not achieve the economic return or stability that allows the project to grow healthily and continue the construction of the next floors.
– “To understand how this industry works and to advance as professional artists, observation, experimentation, and reflection are fundamental.
It is key to recognize that in this business, we need allies to push a project forward before getting a return. Therefore, moving directly from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’, optimizing resources, and minimizing initial frustration is essential.
A well-defined strategy can accelerate the beginning and establish a solid foundation for exponential growth.”
